I have checked out lextreme.com's LS400 4.0L to 4.7L. This is a very subjective questions, but if I were to convert a 95 LS400 into a 4.7L (bottom end) with all the internal bells and whistles (pistons, rods, valve springs, retainers, etc.), how much more would the car be worth vs. stock?
Dont waste your time with 1UZ, if you want to build up an engine, start with a 3UZ. Thing is, 1UZ is a very first Toyota V8, it its showing its age, where as 3UZ is much improved and polished version of it, with most modern features.
Modifying a car very rarely adds value to a vehicle. Obviously there are some exceptions to this rule when it comes to vehicles built by certain speed shops.
As far as swaps are concerned, I don't think the added power is worth it for the money. Especially staying with the UZ line of engines. Unless you go forced induction.

not really, there is very little difference between the basic blocks of the 1uz and the 3uz, in fact the 3uz is pretty much a stroked 1uz.
the head design is different but theres a lot of intercompatibility between heads of all the years.

Yeah, but there are so many other little things that are improved on the 3UZ. Take it from me, I have both, and the 3UZ is just so much simple to work with. Less covers to remove, no engine fan, no distributors/coils/wires/ignitors, more space around the engine, etc. Not the mention that the ECU system is light years ahead of the crappy ECU that shipped with 1UZ.

which is all redundant if you are looking at engine design to BUILD a motor and swap it in. you can't use the 3uz ecu with any other transmission than the one it shipped with (the guys who built the IS430, RMM, know that) and adding CoP is easy if you want it. yes, obviously if you compare stock to stock, the 3uz is better than the 1uz if you dont change anything and drive them as they came, but when you start tinkering the differences are much less apparent.
I think a 5.2L with high compression like 11:1 with good ported heads, oversize valves, cams and exhuast can easily match the latest LS460 in acceleration. Most mod their car for their personal enjoyment not for profit. However, having a LS470 or LS520 (which they are) certainly bring some special value and rarity.

I might need to buy a spare LS and make it a project car lol.

a new Camry or Accord V6 can pretty much match an LS460 in acceleration too
even a stock 98-06 LS400/430 would give an LS460 a serious run for its money
