Default Battery Cover

Is the cover over the battery on a 91 LS 400 really needed? Mine is currently missing. Is it more of a cosmetic part or does it serve a purpose?

It used to serve a purpose with old batteries, which were prone to exploding, and needed to be cooled down. With modern batteries, its not needed.

Never thought of that Och but it makes sense.
It does offer some strain relief for the cables.

Nevertheless I discarded it and the oem terminals when I replaced my last battery. Damn, batterys have gotten pricey!!

Good call on that battery, just picked one of those up off of the recommendation of your post yesterday cause I just redid my alternator a few days ago and wanted a new batt too, I am loving the quality of that battery, very nice.
