Default Battery cover

I picked up a 2010 IS350 a few months back. I was doing air filter change and noticed there is no cover over the battery. Is there supposed to be a cover? An exposed battery look out of place with everything else covered.

Just a metal tie-down from the factory.

Thanks. That would explain why I can't find one for sale anywhere.

Yes there is a cover, it is part 28899-31030 "insulator, battery." When the battery is replaced often times the replacement battery has handles or slotted tabs a handle attaches to. The cover will not clear unless one cuts out two slots. Also, the positive cable is attached to the cover and removing the attaching bracket often destroys the battery cover. Most mechanics probably just toss the cover away during battery replacement. I like mine better with the cover. Does it really matter? Up to you.

^^^^Huh I've owned my 2008 ISF since new. Never saw or heard of a battery cover. This is the part you listed:

Yeah, my '06 IS350 had that part originally; but in 2012, when I had to replace the OEM battery, I chose not to reinstall the "cover" as the clip part for the + terminal cable lead was one of the toughest things to reach and release. So running without has been my choice since then. No issues of course to speak of.

I have replace that Cover with a heat insulator/reflector to keep the battery away from the engine heat, will post a pic later.

I believe the cover is only sold with AZ cars or places where it gets too hot and typically results in dead batteries.

No cover on mine, WA car.

My car was purchased, registered, and lived in NJ until April 1 2011 when I purchased it.

Does that actually extends battery life? My batteries always die in about 2 years.

Batteries are warranted for 36 months at least. They should not die within the 3 years. You must have a parasitic drain and you need to find out where it’s coming from.

That Arizona heat really takes its toll on batteries so i can second that 2 year life span.

I have lived in the Arizona desert for 50 years and have learned to replace my car battery every two years to prevent being suddenly stranded with a dead battery. Go figure.
