Default Towing another car.

Hey everyone,

As some of you'll know, my LS is going through technical difficulties with the fuel system. Hopefully I'll have her ready soon.

I was wondering if the LS can handle towing another car 850 miles east. It will be from Tucson, AZ to San Antonio, TX. I have 3 cars and shipping one will cost me $700 and to be honest I don't want to pay another $700 for my other car. The car I want to tow is a hatch 1986 Toyota Corolla. I can save around $500 by towing the car as oppose to shipping it.

Please let me know what you guys think about the LS towing the corolla 850 miles.

How do you plan on towing her?

Obviously, you probably aren't going to have enough payload on a standard hitch to get a full-flatbed car trailer. But umm... I think you should be fine with a dolly though. The car has plenty of power, but it's just the hitch you plan on using that limits you.

This is a lot of strain on the car, especially to the transmission. Think of how much transmission work costs -

If the car is driveable - I'd get someone to drive it for you or something.

you're right about the ramp, but I thought it would be more weight. I'm trying to take it easier on the wounded LS.

I wouldn't unless you have an auxiliary transmission cooler. The transmission gets extremely hot without the added stress of towing.

I'm going to drive early in the morning when is not too hot, take a long break and then take off at night for the 2nd leg of the trip. That should help.

yea, the stock one isnt that big.

personally i wouldnt do it on a car with a dodgy fuel system, the last thing u want is halfway through the trip to have ur car start sputtering and get stuck.

if that happens just remember that u cant use the hachi to tow the LS

and i think what LiCelsior was trying ot get to was if ur taking a uhaul TRUCK that has ur moving stuff in it then hithc a car to THAT.

personally id just toss my one of my friends a few bones and a couple meals to drive the 86.....though they may insist on taking the celsior

I may have to get my brother in law to drive the hachi. I won't be renting a truck to move anything, its all paid for. The only thing I have to worry about are the cars. what a hassle!! We'll see, I definitely don't want the Corolla pulling on the Lex...I don't think I'll make it very far. lol
thank you all for the inputs.

Good night!
