Rear sunshade for UCF20
I found only a couple threads that were quite old when I searched. I'm looking for a rear sunshade for my UCF20 LS400. Power or manual, any and all options available. If there ever was a factory one offered I would like to know about it as well. I'm trying to slow the deterioration of my rear seats and also would like to keep the car cooler.

I guess tint would work best but i have manual curtains instead . There is a chinese company that make a powered shade . It looks ok but nothing spectacular and is universal.

What would you suggest as a good tint for maximum sun protection but still be able to see just fine at night, and not look aftermarket? If you suggest numbers lower than what the law allows I'll just go up to that legal number.

you'd have to check with local police dept for legal % allowed for it varies from state to state
20% is legal in FL for the rear windows, only 35% is legal in WA on passenger cars and 20% is legal on SUV's (wtf???)
i'd say go 20%, i have it done on both LS and SC and it's just fine, i wouldnt want it any darker

Yeah, NC legal limit is 35%. My LS has very dark tint @ the back. Well, got stopped by a cop Satuday morning @ 7:15a.m. about my tint and he cited me for. I think dude was hoping to catch a big fish (read drugs and ****) coz he was all over my car when he was asking me to open the door so that he could pop the little gadget to measure light permeance through my back window.
Needless to say, my tint failed miserably....4.6%. He gladly wrote me up a $50 fine and $110 court cost....thats a cool $160. I know pple who will take care of it for me so no big deal.
Long story short, try to stay legal otherwise you might have to pay up.

A manual rear sunshade was available in the U.S. LS400 accessory catalog in in the early 1990s I had one installed on the 1990 LS that I sold in 2003: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...req=si&img=819
I was surprised when I bought a used 2000 LS400 in 2003 that a rear sunshade was not available for it -- I loved the one in my 90 LS.
35% tint does not seem all that dark but it is the legal maximum here in Kansas and any darker than that would likely interfere (more than it already does) with the automatic dimming rear view mirrors: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...req=si&img=818
It helps to use a windshield sunshade when the car is parked outside -- I use a custom one that fits the windshield exactly - even in the winter.

Before I had the rear window tinted, the mirrors would dim when a following car was around a quarter mile behind me - very far back! Immediately after the rear window was tinted, the mirrors would dim when a car was only about 100 yards behind me. I now get a little more glare from following headlights but the rear window tint compensates enough.
