Rear bulb indicator light comes on randomly (1994)
There's a light in the speedo cluster (near check engine) that is a pic of a car with some emphasis on the back end of the car. It comes on about half the time I drive the car. It only turns on when I press the brake, then it stays on until the car is turned off and on. I noticed that when this indicator light turns on, the lower left inner brake light (next to license plate) is not working. The bulb is okay because it just stops working in the middle of driving...so what could the problem be?
Thanks

rsg, I've had this problem and have never been able to resolve it. If all your tail light bulbs, including the high stop mount, are okay and you are using OEM bulbs, then it may be the infamous trunk wiring issue - do a search to get more info on this. In my case, my wiring seems okay and I've replaced every single bulb with a new oem, checked grounds, etc. I did fix a similar issue in my toyota by switching to oem bulbs.

i had this problem. it took about 2 weeks and then one of the bulbs finally went out. I replaced it and it went away.
so, just sit back and check the rear lights until the bad one goes out.

This sucks, I have the same problem on my new LS400 that I just purchased. I will be driving around and all of the sudden for no reason the damn rear tailight indicator comes on. I then will shut the car off go into the grocery store and then turn it back on and the thing will not pop on for a day?? It is really weird. Anyone wanna help out on my similar problem? Should I just wait till a light pops? Odd.

I would suggest getting out of the car when the light comes on and checking to see if a bulb is not working. That light came on occasionally randomly but never constantly so I never thought anything of it--until I recently had an oil change and the guy drove it to the car wash section and I was surprised to see one bulb out. Of course, the indicator light was on as well.
I have no idea why the tail light bulb would go out like that and then come back on. It may be related to the problems others are having with the trunk wires become frayed over time.

So I replaced my tail lights with the red/white tails and while I was at it, I replaced every bulb back there. I will let you know if that fixes the problem. I will even be replacing the high stop brake lights with LEDs when they arrive tomorrow, as well as the license plate bulbs.
