do I need new engine/tranny mount (92 LS400)
Hello,
I have a 92 LS400, 115000 miles. I bought this car several months ago. The car runs fine but is not as quite as I like. It's a bit bumpy over uneven pavement, but is rather quite on smooth roads. My mechanic showed me the front upper control arms and lower ball joints (front) were worn so I changed them. The shocks were almost new.
I only felt minor improvement which hardly justifies my expense. So I wonder what should be replaced. I noted that the engine sound can be heard in the driving cabin. When I parked the car and reved up the engine (up to ~6000 rpm) I can really heard the engine sound lound. The car also shaked a bit (at various rpms, like resonance). Is this a way to check if the engine or tranny mounts are bad? I remember the Lexus commercial showing champagne glasses static at near red line revving. So, should I expect that engine sound be hardly audible in an "ideal" LS400 with windows closed?
I don't feel much vibration during gear switching. However, when I braked the car, it sometimes shaked back and forth a bit.
How do I check whether the mounts are good and need replacement? Your help is appreciated.
