Default Spiral Cable

Hello,

I'm new at the whole forum thing, so here goes!!

I have a 1990 LS400 that is making some grinding noise while turning the steering wheel. I called the dealer to find out what it could be and was told that I'd have to replace the spiral cable ($320.00).

Has anyone had this problem and if so was that the fix?

By spiral cable do they mean clockspring?

As in the round up cable in the steering wheel that has the wires to the cruise control, horn and srs buttons.

Pito...Thanks for your response! I am unsure what the actual name of the part is. The only thing that I was told by the dealer was Spiral Cable. I will be calling back to ask them for a clockspring quote and see what they tell me.

The horn and the cruise control work just fine. It all has to do with an inner grinding noise when the wheel is turned in either direction.

Usually replacement of that clockspring is because of the signs listed above. Also an SRS light could be indicative of a bad clockspring. I have experienced that grinding sound on a 92 929 that I had and didnt bother to repair it but, my mechanic did hint at the clockspring being bad.
