Default Engine temp guage?

Anyone know why my engine temp never drops to cold, even after shutting car off? And as soon as you start the car it goes directly past hot. A little past the red zone even. It just started doing this. Thanks

The sensor is bad maybe.

If it doesnt go down to cold when the car is cold and it immediately goes to hot when you power up the car, my guess is the unit is faulty.

might be one of the capacitors in the instrument cluster or the temp gauge needle assembly. i'm not sure about the temp sensor being the culprit, since the temp never goes all the way down even after turning the car off...
