My brother recently had to change out his shifter **** on his 94 LS and upon changing it he mistakenly cut the wire for the overdrive connector that is attached(inside) to the button on the shifter.The wire inside is attached to a metal cable/clip on the lever itself.After the install, when he tries to remove the key from the ignition it doesn't seem to come out.To remove the key, he has to disconnect the battery.The car starts fine in park.
Is someone familiar with this issue?

sounds more like he damaged the park-neutral safety switch
