Engine mounts: medicine for all illness ?
I replaced engine mounts and transmission mount yesterday (91 LS400, 160K miles). It costs Cdn $650 (US$520), about half of that amount is for parts (mail order from US) and 3 hours of labor.
The car now feels more solid, the transmission shifts smoother and quicker. It's probably the most significant improvement I've done on that car.
The new mounts also fixed several problems I reported earlier in this forum:
- big clunking noise at startup when the engine is cold
- the engine buzzed at 1300 and 1800 RPM between 1-2 and 2-3 shifts
- clunking noise when turning left under braking
Highly recommended.
