Default O/D button failed

Guys,
the O/D button on the shifter **** for the 92LS stoped working and is always in the off position now. meaning I have to manually press the button in order to keep the car in the highest gear.
besides changind the whole shifter, can the button be bought just on it's own ? and if so can someone please post the procedure to open up the leather shifter **** to access the button and replace it.
thanks !

There sre two screws on the shifter ****, they are both covered with circular plastic caps. One in the front facing your console. The other is on the right hand side on the oppossite side of the shifter button. Remove these two screws and your **** should slide up and reveal the o/d button and wires. I removed my shifter **** to clean up a beverage spill and ran into the same problem as you. The button and wire mechanism is going to cost you $54.00 from lexus. I called their parts shop and they even sent me a faxed diagram as to how and where the piece is connected...
Hope this helps somewhat.
