Default 17mm water inlet fill plug

Hello all. Have Any of you noticed on your ucf10's that the water inlet housing 17mm fill plug is not perfectly round? One side of it is short, the other side of it is longer, and the mating surface on the inlet housing is the same way????? My question is as I was reinstalling the bolt, the long side of the bolt is on the short side of the mating surface... think I'm crazy? Well go see for yourself. There is literally an overlap you can feel with your finger where the face of the bolt is sticking out over the edge of the water inlet mating surface, and the other side there is a lip where the bolt isn't touching where it's supposed to be. I now have a leak from there.. go see for yourself

The sealing surfaces are the flat portions of the seal washer and the corresponding flat surfaces on the plug and housing. The seal is not affected by the outside diameter.

Questions:
  • The last time the fill plug was removed, was a new seal washer installed?
  • Is the fill bolt torqued to specs?
  • Is it correct size seal washer?
  • Is the the sealing surfaces of the thermostat housing and plug flat, clean and undamaged?

thank you very much sir. i bought this car 1 month ago. There was zero coolant leaking from the 17mm plug. I removed it and put it back on at 33 ft lbs without replacing the gasket. I am picking up the gasket tommorrrow from the dealer. I didn't think i would need to replace it. Thank you have a good one

Most people re-use them. I used to reuse them until I found out you can buy them in bulk.

The plug is pretty close on both of my cars to the diameter of the housing. I also replace the washer each time and haven't had any issues!

New gasket, still have a small small small leak from the inlet fill plug. Torqued to 33 ft lbs too... wtf? Can I use thread tape?

Get a new plug. Your old one is rusting away anyway. I replaced mine recently. It was about $10 at the Toyota dealer.
Edit. Now that I think about it, my new plug came with pre-installed thread sealant. So if you sealed your threads, it would probably work. I'd still buy a new one though.
