96 Ignition Switch Problem
Hello all,
I have a 96 LS400 that was passed down to me from a family member. When I place the key in the ignition, it spins freely from off to start and doesn't start. I have the battery disconnected at the moment because when it is connected, the car is already in the on position. I'm thinking the switch needs to be changed but just wanted to be sure. Also, will I have to have the key recut or matched to the new ignition?? Thanks for your help in advance!!!

sounds like you have a busted ignition. it depends on the damage and you might be able to reuse your old key, but most folks just don't want to deal with dismantling the cylinder from the ignition switch, so they replace it all together as one unit.
be sure to get the matching key if you get a new or used ignition switch. good luck!
