Default 98 LS400 ECU Swap

Inorder to swap ecus do I just plug the new ecu and it's key will work fine?

Will the remote lock and unlock work? Do I need to just buy the ecu and they key or are other components from the donor vehicle required for the swap?

My ecu is dead it's not fixable.

Thank you.

1998 ECU's have an immobilizer, it will need to be reprogrammed (or removed) before the replacement ECU will function.

The remote lock/unlock is not controlled by the ECU. It is handled/controlled by the body and door computers. The immobilizer system is built in the ECU and you can't simply swap the ECU. The immobilizer chip is in the ECU and dealers/locksmith will re-write the stored data in it using a special tool and charge you some big money. Swapping only the chip is another simple way for DIYers who have good soldering skills. Some DIYers may re-write the data using a PC and a specially made interface circuit.

Incidentally who judged that your ECU is dead and not fixable?

I Had an issue where my gas pedal doesn't work + A check engine light, I judged it to be bad ecu capacitors as it started being a intermittent issue that would go away after unplugging the battery then it progressed into being permanent.

The ecu unfortunately didn't survive the capacitor change and some traces were melted 😭

I know that for 98-2000 a simple ecu swap wouldn't work, which is why I'm asking what parts I need from the donor vehicle other than the new ECU + it's key for full functionality.

Thank you so much for your help 🙏🙏

I don't know if the attachment will be of any help.

The question I would ask, what state is the replacement ECU in? Is it already in auto-registration mode?
