Question How hot do the HID ballasts get?

I installed the Autolamps kit and noticed that the ballasts conduct A LOT of heat from the engine.

So my question is do the ballast themselves put out much heat? If not, I was thinking about buying small project boxes from Radio Shack to house the ballasts. I figure this would also shield them from the elements - water, dirt, etc.

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance.

Yah...it gets pretty hot.

Personally, I would NOT cover the ballast at all.....the heat needs to dissipate. If you cover it, it may cause more harm than good.

Btw....its been about 6 months now, and my ballasts look the same as the day I installed them....not dirty at all.

The ballast do get hot. You can touch it with the finger for a short time.

If you're that concerned, sandwich it between two copper bars. Or between to cheap heatsinks.

If you read the label, or the back of the ballast (whichever comes first) You'll find it's well within it's normal operating temps.
