CAREFUL: Warning About Bulbs...
Hey there people of CL
PS: Note to mods... I know this is an electrical question, but it concerns specifically the Soarer/SC, so if you need to pls move the thread to the appropriate section... because I don't know where to put it
Just a warning about using aftermarket bulbs in Soarers/SC. Sure 65W doesn't seem like much for the lighting system to handle (the factory Soarer lowbeam wattage is 55W), or so I thought. I replaced my bulbs when the original Koito's went bust with Polarg and the G4 65W HB3's, but my left light keeps on busting out for some reason. I thought it was because the bulb was ****e... The reason? The connector melted
even the housing of the connector is melted through (which is why it was a complete a**hole to remove). Same thing happened when the turning lights were rigged up to turn on with the parking lights as spotlights (actually a great mod, but it didn't last too long unfortunately...
) No pic ATM, but I'll take one in the morning.
I got a few questions...
1. The lowbeam connectors are able to handle 55W, while the highbeams are able to handle 65W. When I go to the wreckers to enquire, would I be able to connect highbeam connectors to the lowbeam wiring? I was thinking that the connectors would then be able to easily handle 65W instead of the crappy 55W... Would that stuff up anything?
2. About the turning light connectors (which are basically similar to the blinker connectors), would I be able to retrofit, say proper spotlight H3 connectors and bulbs to the original housing or would that be a complete waste of time?
3. I'm also thinking about going down the H.I.D. route... would it be worth retrofitting an H.I.D. kit into a Soarer's lowbeam system? I'm really thinking of doing this instead of stuffing around with different connectors and stuff like that...
Thanks in advance
Jose

1) Yes the low beams should be able to handle 65w just fine. Don't get any higher, that would be too much. The low beams are the same as the high beams, minus the color of the plastic.
I stuck some 9005 65w silver stars in the low beams. (stock is 55w 9006) Light output was better on my ES, but it still isn't great.
3)That's why I've bought some new phillips 9006 kits.
