Default H7 Bulb powered by Car Battery

I need to power a car H7 bulb indoors to do some testing. I have a spare car battery, can i just connect the bulb to the battery or will it blow the bulb? And i guess it doesnt matter which way round i connect the terminals to the bulb right?

Safer route would be using a ballast to power up the bulb, using a battery with no amp control to fire up a bulb could damage the bulb.
