Hey guys ive heard people that swap headlights have put h11 bulbs for the new headlight straight into the factory 9006 socket with no problems. Is this really possible without complication? Do they draw the same amount of power??
I put h11 bulbs in the low beams (9006) on my wife's 94 ES 300 a couple of years ago. The light output improved somewhat. As I recall, the power draw is not much different from the 9006.
The h11 will not fit without modification. You have to cut about 1/8" off one of the plastic tabs on the bulb capsule. I believe I used a hacksaw to do this. The modification is very similar to that needed to fit a 9005 bulb into a 9006 socket. The electrical connection is the same on both bulbs.
A quick check on Google indicates that they are available in 55w and 80w. The 80w bulb should probably not be used without wiring and socket modification. The 55w is the same power draw as the 9006 bulb, I believe.
well i just bought a h11 to 9006 harness from innovative wiring. Just to be on the safe side. Sure i could just buy my own h11 socket and just rewire to the 9006 factory wires, but im afraid i could short something out.
and those are not the same as h11 right? I need H11s for my housing.
It looks like they are not the same.
Are you putting these in a two headlight or four headlight vehicle? The 9006 is a low beam bulb for a four-headlight system. It is usually matched with the 9005 bulb for the high beams.
If there is any difference in the two, it probably involves the plastic tabs that hold the bulb in place after you twist it in. With a bit of cutting on these tabs, you could probably make either one work.
i thought that..but i was afraid of h11 drawing more power and burning something up. I just went ahead with the Conversion harness..hopefully that works out.
