Default Difference between HID/non HID-equipped 2IS's?

I'm not new to the retrofitting world, but I am new to the Lexus world. I just picked up an '06 base for a steal, and having my FX35 bixenons in my Supra has me spoiled. The stock halogens on my IS350 aren't cutting it.

What's the difference between the HID equipped cars and the non HID-equipped cars in terms of hardware? Do the cars with the HID option have a different projector or bixenon function? Or, could I go buy a set of ballasts and D4S bulbs and basically have the HID "option"?

Just curious. I bought my car with a McCulloch 6000K kit on it, but wouldn't ya know, both bulbs were blown. I prefer to steer away from kits, and was just curious to know what the OEM HID cars had in terms of hardware that the non-optioned cars don't have.

You would need a H11 HID conversion kit for the 2IS without the HID/AFS options.

I think you just answered him indirectly. The difference between a stock HID equipped car and a non-HID car with added aftermarket HID would be the AFS. I'm not sure about the projector lens itself, but non-HID would definately lack AFS. AFS = motors integrated into the projector that turns as you steer. Also, it autolevels (you can see the beam move up and down) when you turn on the car.

I would presume the lens, internals of the projectors and what not would be designed differently, also. Just like reflector housings that are designed for halogens is only for that only. Put a HID kit in there and you'll have increased glare. But like mysteryan said, the OEM has AFS. If you really wanna go that route you'll need the D4S headlamps as the D4S bulb won't fit into the H11 socket. Although not sure how you'll wire the AFS though. There's always the retro

You would have to get the projectors with AFS pre-installed to get the function i believe.

If your looking to buy a HID kit to put into your stock projectors(that came with halogen bulbs) You will need a H11 kit NOT D4S

Although the projectors with the AFS motors are installed already, you wouldn't get it still because if I remember correctly, it's connected to the rear suspension. As he stated, his car already came with a kit installed but the bulbs blew and would like to stay away from kits.

OK, I wasn't aware that the HID equipped cars had the AFS feature. That feature is pretty slick - seen it in action on my aunt's 5 series BMW. I bet the HID cars have the same reflector bowl, lense, etc. I might go searching our favorite online auction site for H11 bulbs from a kit if I can find them for a price not too insane.

I have the internals of hid equipped is headlights for sale if your interested. The mounts were cracked, but I kept the projectors to possibly use as a project. Let me know if you are interested in anything.
