1: That's the ballast.
2: That's the power wire that connects to the ballast.
3: Autoleveling motor.
4: Looks like a breather tube.
5: d2r/d2s bulb plug. Comes from the ballast and connects to the bulb.
6: The autoleveling motor does all the moving. All other parts pivot. From the looks of the housing, it looks like both high beams and low beams move together.

Also, it is most likely a D2R bulb since I'm almost completely certain that your headlights are the reflector type.

Install the headlights and turn your car on. When the car is switched to the on position the headlights will swing down, then up. That way you know your levelers are working.

check the wiring at the 2 wheel height sensors (front pass. and rear drivers iirc, might be reversed ) and make sure that nothing's loose.

you would get a warning message on the dash if anything was wrong with your auto leveling.

If you wanan double check, turn your lights on and start the car. Should swing down, then back up.

Yes, on the LS, both low's and high's adjust.

My headlights go down, but on the way back up, they hesitate slightly.

This is still the issue even with the new HIDs
It will say somethign along the lines of "autoleveling failure" or something of that nature.

Seems like you might need to tighten up the sensors behind the wheels.

I would just get one of those headlight cleaning kits, and it will look brand new.

Basically you sand it down, and polish it.

to answer ur question, No, you can't.

iirc Depo makes a replacement headlight for NON-HID 98-00 cars.
