Default HIDs won't ignite but they're not defective...

Got my HID conversion kit today. Before installing, decided to test the lights by assembling the ballast, harness, and bulb. Plugged into 9006 socket. Turned on headlights. Nothing. Tried the other side. Nothing. Put the original bulbs back in. They worked fine.

Next, moved to 300ZX and plugged them into the 9006 connectors. Turned headlights on. HIDs instantly came on and in about 15 seconds were just blinding. Orderd 5000K, but I could tell they were closer to 4300K. Either is fine.

Next, went back to SC400 and tried the 9006 connectors again. Nothing. Then I tried the 9005 connectors. Nothing.

My only conclusion is there is a circuit on the SC400 that is preventing power unless it detects the correct resistance.

Any ideas?

Thanks. I was just coming in to say the same thing. I figured, well if there's a circuit detecting load, then the voltage would be different, but it wasn't. So I checked the voltage on my Z and noticed that the polarity was reversed from the SC. So I turned the connector around and blam.

Thanks again!

I own a number of HID flashlights ranging in color temp from 4200K to 6500K. You most certainly can tell the difference.

But the reality is there's enough variation in individual lights of the same spec that there's no way to really be sure.

The same thing happened to my sc300. However I didnt have to do no reverse polarity. I just plugged in a 9006 bulb, turned it on and it worked. Then plugged in the 9006 HID right away and it worked, and its been woprking since

did you ever use those aftermarket 110w bulbs? those can often melt the headlight plug and this warped plug may not work well with the hid kits.
