Default Q: HID conversion kit for SC?

i just purchased a HID (high intensity discharge) 6k lamp for my 92 SC400. i was gonna install it, but im scared it may burn my lense. my headlights already hav oem projectors. i was wondering if anyone had HIDs on their sc400, if there are any problems? how long u've had them.. or nething that would help me decide on installin them or not. thanks

if you are talking about your projector lense, I highly doubt anything will happen to it (since they should be made out of glass) and your headlight lenses are too far away and heat is mainly enclosed in the projector assembly and will be fine.

Plus There are guys that already have done this with good results and no problems as far as any kind of burning, only problems you would have would be with the ballast, ignitor, and bulb. Make sure you have an appropriate harness and dont touch the bulb. Other than that you are set to install

thanks for ur comment, i get the point ur tryin to make. i've spoken to a few mechanics, the only concern they've had was that the projectors may actually intensify the heat to the lens; which could result in burning.

I see the principal makes sense (if you compare projectors to a magnifying glass), but the projectors, dont really intensify the beam (they focus it, in a way they do) Magnifying glasses are clear tho, and still you have to move the magnifying glass around to focus the light in a dot the size of a tip of the pen, while projectors in your assembly are stationary.

So if you think about it, the projectors in the 1SC actually sort of hinder the light with their fuzzy lenses, anybody that has upgraded their projectors will tell you the difference. But even with clear projectors like s2000 and the TSX, You still will have no problems with burning in your headlamp/projector assembly. The light is still focused into an area approx the size of a small hand palm (no where near the size of a pen) So you should be ok

Only place I think people have experienced burning and melting is in the harness/cables.

Have you thought about taking your headlight apart and cleaning behind the projector lens, etc?? Seems to make a nice difference if you have dirty lenses.
Good luck with the install, and make sure you post pics!

OLT did a write up about polishing the projector lens. Do a quick search and you'll see how to clean them up.
