Question Headlight Problem

I had a retrofit done on my GS and am using Philips 4300k D2S bulbs and philips ballasts, my problem is that sometimes when I turn my headlights on only one headlight will fire up, and then if I turn them off and turn them on quickly neither one will fire up, but if I wait about a minute or so and then turn them on again they both turn on fine. It isnt just one side that does it, sometimes its the passenger side and sometimes its the drivers side. I would say it happens about every fourth time I turn my lights on and it is driving me crazy. I suspect the ballasts because I had them from a plug and play kit, and even though they are philips I wonder about their quality. I never had problems with the plug and play kit but the ballasts did sit out of the car for 6 months or so. The wiring harness I am using is from the plug and play kit so I dont think it is that. Before I go and buy new ballasts any suggestions? Also any suggestions on the type of ballast to buy? I have been looking on HIDplanet.com and they have some nice ballast for sale on that site. Please let me know what you think

Don't forget to test them individually first. If they're shot, then check out your options.
Try the new Valeo slim ones. I think Henry still has some left in stock. Personally I think they're the best out there as far as dimensions and overall looks/cool factor. If you have his # give him a buzz. Since you got your parts from him early in the summer he should give you a discount. Tell him I sent you.

Thanks Mike. I will email him and see what he can do for me. Are they brand new units that he is selling?

Rich, clean the head of the power wire from the harness thats on the battery terminal. Oxidation can greatly reduce the contact surface thus reducing the amount of electricity going to the ballast.

Thanks stan I will try that. If that is the cause of this I will have to kick myself. On a side note does anyone know the DIY to up the output of the ballast over the 35W? I know a member on here posted some pictures and said it was a huge difference to boost the output to 75W or something like that, anyone know where I can find that info?

Check hidplanet. They're many posts about this. I hear the difference is like this. 35 watt is nice and bright. 75w is like looking at the sun

I had the same problem to, what you need is to get some relays and some wire and build your own wire harness. What this does is free up the load required to turn on the lights,by grounding the relays to a good metal surface and the power straight from the battery, you will have enough voltage to power-up your lights.because the factory switch was never designed to ignite two ballast at 23,000 volts a piece your ballast are fine trust me
