Default 2000 ES Headlamp Removal

I have a question about removing my headlamp assembly. The closest I found for such information was this:

(Sorry I don't have any pics available on this computer) To remove them its not hard. Its pretty simple. You need to remove three screws each side. The first ones is easy to get to. The hold the top clip of the assembly and are located on the far top left side for the left headlight and the far top right side for the right headlight. You will need to remove these screws with a socket head type screw driver (like those multi purpose/multi attachment). The final set of screws can be found under the black plastic cover that covers the radiator. You won't need to remove the whole thing but just pop those plastic screws out (should be like three on the left and three on the right). Now pry up the plastic cover that covers the radiator and then look for the final two screws that hold the headlight in place. One is vertically removed and the other horizontially (does that make sense?) Now remove each bulb from the lights (high and low beams) and slowly remove the head lamp assemblies from the car. Slowly because the final bulb for the turn signals is still attached but you will have to remove the wire that clips into place (looks like a triangle socket). Once you got this out you're lamp is free to be cleaned. Now I don't know if you wanna clean the inside but since you got the lamps off you might as well open them up and get in there and clean them 110%. To open them up, there are several methods and I suggest you do a search for that (to tired to type). Good luck and post pics!

Thx tiguy99

But this is for a 96 ES rather than 2000, would this procedure be correct for my model? As for the tools, I looking at

1) socket head screw driver
2) flathead screwdriver to "Pry up the plastic cover of radiators

Is this all I need?

I'm sure its not that much different. I doubt you need to remove the bumper to take the lights out (unlike some cars). Its probably two -three screws each side and your home free. Open the hood, examine it and you'll see what needs to be removed

Okay,

I just spent the last few days staring at the dang thing and actually searching for schematics on the net to no avail. I think I know what I'm about to do to take apart these suckers and planning an entire saturday to rip it apart and put it back together. Basically a trial run before I actually take them apart and sent them in. =)

I'm ordering from illusion a retro. I know I should try to get this by DIY, but I really don't have the expertise or just plain time to mess around. Leave it to the professionals =).

Thanks for input.

Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the plastic clips on the radiator shroud. These are a two piece clip that you need to pop up the center 'pin' of the clip and then the bottom half will pop right out.

There is one screw holding the side marker lights to the headlights. Take this screw out and then take your hand and bump the marker light from back to front, this should pop right out.

There are two bolts on the side of the headlight and one on top that come off, take them out and you can remove the headlight.

good luck!

- if my old post is still on this site, I did a headlight swap on my '98 ES with HID's out of a 2000 try doing a search

omg...i should have read your post before trying to do this thing on my own. I went to a few auto repair places and they just have this clueless look on their face when i told them i want my head light assembly removed.

So i bought some tools and went ahead with this on my own. I am stuck actually. I removed the shroud as you said. My butterfingers managed to drop one of the top pieces down the middle of the engine and its sitting somewhere, not on the floor, but in the middle of car somewhere.

Passenger side bolt doesn't fit the wench I got so may have to hammer in a smaller one...i think its a little stripped...and yes...i tried a smaller socket head.

Okay, now for my real problem. I noticed that you said that there are two bolts holding the main headlight assembly together, and then a single screw for the side blinkers. I removed the side blinker's screw, but the thing wouldn't come off. I'm prying and seeing that there is a "notched" plastic thingy that is holding it in place. Is there a easy way to get this thing off.

Once i get that off, the other bolt is right there? I narrowed it down to something holding it in that area...thank you so much....sk8

After you take out the side marker screw, bump your hand on the side of the marker light using slight forward pressure. The marker will slide forward and come out the notch looking thing that you see is a clip that holds the marker to the main headlight....

My headlights will have to come out once more for me to install the factory wiring harness plugs, when I get around to doing that I will post it on CL in a step by step process. Until then good luck!
