Default Brighter brake lights?

I would like to increase the visibility/brightness of the brake lights. Flipping through one of the hot rod mags, there was a 50 watt halogen bulb but this application is the twist in bayonet type mount. Are there similar bulbs for our push in types?

Looking at the new Benze, I'd like them to be like that.

LEDS?

Be careful then bumping up wattage on bulbs because you will start blowing fuses.

yeah don't even try to put 50w bulbs in the brake housing. you will not see light, you will see smoke

the resaon those new cars (mb, bimmer) are brighter is coz' they are using led, which is brighter in nature i believe. not sure if they make the led with the same base as the brake lights though

Definitely don't want a hot bulb like the 50 watt halogen back there. Some of the LED arrays are $$ and the ones I've seen are built into a billet assembly. Any recco's for LED sources?

Are the 3'rd brake lights on the current Lexus LED?

Mike , You could get the new led strip lights and alter the back of your lenses to fit it in...........they are brighter and use less voltage.

Mike-

I'll look into this. I really would like the third light to be much brighter. The '04 brochure lists LED's for the rear lights on the LS, I haven't been behind an '04 (that I noticed) that is super bright when the brakes are applied.

I've seen an '04 and in my opinion I don't think it's as bright as the '03 without LEDs. The LED's on the Infinity "G" and "FX" models seem very bright though. And our city buses have LEDs exclusively on the back of the bus and they are really bright. Seems like there might be differences in brightness of LEDs in auto applications.

The third is very easy to install an LED strip light.
