Default tail light doesn't work, brake light does??

Hey all, great forum.

I've got a 93 sc400 and the dash indicator light showed that one of my tailights was out. I noticed it was the right, bottom tailight. I went to replace it but then noticed that this light actually works when the brake is pressed, but doesn't work when the night lights are on. I've done a search, but didn't seem to find my problem: any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum. So did you actually replace the bulb?

conscious: May want to double check that. I have a '95 sc300, but I think the lighting structure is the same. The parking lights should be powered by three 194 bulbs on the upper portion of the taillamp. The brake lights are powered by 1156 bulbs on the lower portion of the taillamp (inclusive of the turn and backup lights).

No I didn't change the bulb as it was working fine when the brakes were pushed and I had been given the wrong bulb. From a previous search, I think the tailights were changed after '94 and the bottom light is definitely activated on the drivers side, but not the passengers when the night lights are on. I thought of the fuses, but I understood them to be, "If it works, it works - if it's broken it won't".

Have I missed something? Thanks again for the help.

soory for not clairifying ,if the bub from the side that does work also works in the opposing side, the latter bulb should be replaced.. if it shows the same symptoms as the original then check wiring harness. then clean the contacts of your signal ,taillight ,brakelight receptical.
lots of luck ean [prince of darkness]

Don't fool around with this, just replace the bulb. Electro992 has provided the correct answer.
