Default Keyless Entry on 95 SC300

Guys,

Just picked up my '95 SC300 last Friday. I've been browsing/seaching the forums, but haven't found an answer to my questions. From what I gather ALL SCx00's have keyless entry. Some have the remote integrated into a "transponder" key, while others have the key fob. Here's the questions, what years have which? I've read that the keys are about $250 @ the dealer, and I've seen a bunch of key fobs on eBay for like $30. So if the 95's used the key style, can I get a key fob off eBay and just program it to work or does the system require the transponder key type? If I can, will any Lexus keyless entry fob work? If not, which ones? Which years/models also came with the remote start?

Thanks in advance.

im pretty sure the keyless fob was introducted in 96, and the transponder key was introduced in 98. can anybody confirm this? this is going off my memory, and applies to the sc400 (tho im sure it applies to the 300 equally).

I'm not worried about the "neatness" of having the transponder key. More importantly just having working keyless entry. So I am trying to get a solid answer on whether or not on a 1995 car if I buy a general Lexus keyless entry remote off eBay for instance, if I can program it to work?

I also have a 95 sc 300 with a keyless entry within the key. The dealer may have your answers.

Has anyone solved this issue? I am thinking about using the newer lexus keys for a 97. I like how the newer keys have the buttons you can press for trunk release and all that. It would be cool if its possible.

Guys, if you need to buy new keys, PLEASE do not get them from your dealer. Here at ClubLexus, we think of you first

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=161525

Read that, use the code, its a group buy over at the the vendor marketplace forum. Pretty much, for most year SCs you can get a keyless entry Master key set here much cheaper than the dealer will quote you.. You would then just need to take it to the dealer to have it programmed for your car, or DIY if you know how. The 97's are the only ones with Keyless entry fobs on that website, but I'm pretty sure that when you give them your VIN number, they will cut the 97 key for you, give you a fob that you would then have to have programmed.

If you don't really care whether it's a fob, just get an aftermarket keyless entry system or alarm. I highly recommend autopage systems. Their customer service is simply amazing. You could probably find this on ebay for about $20. Very easy install. I'd offer to help since you're in GA, but I'm leaving for a 6 week job in Missouri in a week and am slammed until then. If you have any questions, send an email to "whiteagle" at my gmail account.

I had the same problem and this was my solution. While I was at it, I purchased one with keyless entry, 2-way alarm, and remote start (no more roasting under the atlanta sun!).
