Unhappy broken cd player?

Hey everyone,
We have just bought a 1996 sc300 5 speed. Something is wrong with the cd player. Heres the scenario: I follow the directions in the manual and push the eject button on the changer itself. The light has always been illuminated and when I push eject it flashes as the cd tray moves up and then the light stops when the tray is fully up. I push the open button and slide the cover back. I proceed to load 4 cd's in the #'s 1,2,3, and 4 slots. I put the cds in correctly with the label facing up and made sure they were fully loaded. I then put the tray back in the changer with the arrows matched up and slide the cover closed. I can hear the tray being taken back into position. Immediatly after it is in position the thing keeps making a repetitive chhh chhh chhh chhh noise as if it is checking the slots. However the thing doesnt stop. It makes the noise forever. I put the key in the ignition and turn it to acc and push the cd button. I can choose cd numbers 1-12 and the player makes a noise like it is selecting a cd but then just makes the clicking noise. I try pushing the different track buttons and it still makes the noise. I even repeat the steps with the car on. Sorry for the long post but if anyone else has had this problem please share how you solved it and if you have any ideas what is going wrong help me out. I have to push the eject button and not slide open the lid for the thing to stop. I would appreciate any input. thanks

I have the same problem like that with my CD changer too, but if I keep reloading my CD a few times then it will work again. I guess I got lucky

if the unit doesn't "see" the disk, it will continue to look for one.

chunk it.

Try putting in just 1 CD that is really short, like 50 minutes with ten tracks or less and see if it can read it. YOu need to adjust one of the adjustment screws inside the CD changer because it is way out of alignment. It is trying to read all the way to the end of the CD to initialize it and it is getting stuck. I don't know how it works but I have messed with those adjustment screws and created this problem so I'm sure it can be undone. Or you can just chunk it.

Oh, mark each screw you %$#%$ with because if you make the prob worse you are going to want to put it back. You might as well try my idea because either way it's broke so I'm letting you know that you have an option.

I searched for more information on replacement chagners. In an older thread posted here some say that a 93-94 LS400 6 disc changer can be used to replace the 92-98 SC 12 disc changer. If this is true does the LS changer directly connect into the SC headunit and work without any modification? As in, all I have to do is remove the 12 disc, put the 6 disc in and recconnect the wires? Do all the buttons on the stock SC headunit work with LS 6 disc changer?

Be brave and start removing screws to get at the guts. There won't be too many adjustment screws start with the one closest to the laser and work away. Turn a little bit one way, see if it helps, try the other way. You get the picture. Did you try a CD with less music to see if it recognized??? Oh, swab the laser with a q-tip and a little alcohol while you're around there.

I have also read you can use the 6-disc instead but you never know with Lexus radios....
