Default GPS/Nav system for LS430?

I have a 2001 LS430 without the GPS/Nav system. I want to add GPS now, and am wondering if I should just go thru Lexus and add the factory model version, or go aftemarket? Any suggestions, and pros/cons of either method?

I figure with the Lexus one, I would keep the Lexus warranty, and keep it looking as stock as possible.

The Lexus nav screen is $6,000.00+ the Nav ECU+labor and you may looking at over 10K. You may need more than those items to make it to work and look factory.

Over 10k?!!! Yikes! That's definitely way more than I'm willing to pay. I think the factory option at the time of purchase was 12k, and that included a bunch of other goodies, in addition to the GPS system. Guess I should've gone for that option at the time.

What are my options with aftermarket GPS then? Any suggestions on models that integrate well with the LS430?

You might consider the Alpine 852a, Pioneer AVIC-90DVD and Kenwood navigation systems. They each have pros/cons. and each can use a fixed mount monitor 5.5" - 7" instead of replacing your factory stereo with any kind of flip out screen. Look thru the messages here as different navigaiton systems have been compared before.

Default videonavi is right

I prefer the Kenwood system, but really they all have good and bad points. I have remote control interfaces, which causes me to lean towards the kenwood and its touchscreen.

of course I'm really a supporter of the OEM system!
