SC blown speaker replacement?
Ok, after a search I still wasn't too clear on this so I'll ask anyway. Ok the passenger side front speaker is blown on my 92 SC300 (non-Nakamichi). I was wondering if I could just straight replace them with a new set of speakers. I didn't wanna spend much more money on anything other than the speakers. The only thing I'm worried about is the molex plugs that the stock system uses. I'm not sure how to hook up new speakers with the oem amps. Any help from fellow members would be appreciated. Thanks
when connecting a new speaker to the existing wiring you can do a few things.
1. find a matching molex connector that will interface with the stock wires and then wire the other end to the new speaker.
2. use the blade terminals on the end of the speaker wire and slide them into the molex plug and then tape everything up.
3. you can always cut the wires or splice into the wires before the molex plug.
hope that helps...

The connection should be the same if not then just cut off the pigtail off the stock speaker and solder it to the new one! If you have the pioneer system just pick up some 4in pioneer speakers and replace them! I use the basic pioneers and they work fine.

So Lexus just made it look fancy with plugs? Otherwise i can just cut off the plug and use the negative (black) and positive(red) as normal when installing new speakers. Since I have to replace, I wanted to maybe go to a 5 1/4" in place of the 4". But this requires a mdf spacer of some sort right? Sorry, I'm a stereo newbie.
yeah just cut the plug and wire up the new speakers like you normally would.
if the 4" is mounted on a plastic piece (the GS is like that)...you can remove that and use it as a template for a wood baffle. just trace it out on a piece of wood (1/2" MDF or 1/2" birch) and cut it out with a jigsaw. use that instead of the plastic piece...you can go with 5 1/4" or even a 6 1/2"...you just have to make sure that when mounted the speaker magnet clears your windows when its rolled down.
good luck
