Default Custom box

So I am in the process of having a custom box made again for my jl w3v1 10". I want it ported up to the cabin where the stock sub is at. Anyone have an idea of what kind/design I can make or should I use one or two subs? I will be using a jl 500/1 v1 to push them.

You can do ported or bandpass it all depends on the sound you want.

I just want a nice clean sound with a little more bass to it. Don't need too loud, just to sound nice like stock but with a little more bass kick to it

I'm interested in this as well.
I was wondering if I could port a pair 10s out of the stock sub hole into the cabin and what that would do the the sound quality.

If you are simply looking for a nice improvement over stock then stick with a sealed enclosure. Sealed enclosures will give you tighter more accurate bass, while ported will give you what is known as a "ripple" at a certain frequency range dictated by the volume of the box and the tuning frequency of the port.

If you listen to predominately rock types of music styles then sealed is for you. If you are a hip hop guy, then ported can be more to your liking.

Remember, everything I am saying here is in general terms.

Any speaker pointed toward the empty sub hole is gonna give you ambient woofer or cone noise and excess rattle in the deck lid...The shelf in the trunk of our lexus' s is a tempting and space saving place to put a box but it also is the furthest point from where you get the best resonance through the oem sub location....closer you get to the trunk lid the better more trunk rattle outside but best sound quality inside regardless box ported or sealed

Welcome to the dead and resurrected thread club!!!

I think you missed the question. He isnt talking about firing the sub at the factory sub opening but running a port up and into the factory opening to possibly help increase volume in the cabin.

Your right I didn't catch that but either way the same laws of sound apply a ported box especially gains more volume from resonance (more space to build sound waves) so firing the port directly to the oem sub spot would just sound sloppy and muffled...ported box 101 you face the port away from the listener in this case the back of the car...The oem sub spot is simply a secondary tuning port take advantage of it by not pointing things at it lol

I would recomend a sealed enclosure for clean sound and a ported box for that hard hitting "Ghetto Bass" that shakes your whole car. It all depends on you the driver and ultimate person who is going to be listening to music in that vehicle. Who cares what others think. You do what sounds good to YOU. If someelse is payinmg for your system to get installed, then do what they sugest. But if you are the one paying you do what makes you happy. i would also remove the factory sub so the bass will travel easier into the cabin area.

Anybody that is going to bad mouth a ported enclosure and the way they sound has never apparently had one professionally done. I have zero issues with anything and I listen to all types of music. Fourth order ported to factory opening.

This. I've ran bandpass, ported, and sealed. Ported can still sound extremely clean if you have the proper driver and enclosure.

its all about how you tune your ported box to the specs of sub and your preference of sound. just dont buy a premade ported box.
