Question Subwoofer Removal / Installation

Gentlemen,
I'm trying to replace the stock subwoofer on my 93 LS400. The dealer is asking for 350. The car has a nakamichi audio system in it.
My first question : is that the best price if we replace the woofer with the same kind ?
second : has someone tried to replace it themself ? if so what are the steps involved ? pics would definitely help if available.
thanks.

I would recommend you to get an aftermarket subwoofer and possible an aftermarket 2 or 1 channel ampifier to run an aftermarket sub....for $350.00 you will definately get a better one than the stock!

If you're looking keep your trunk space you should look at getting a JL infinite baffle (free-air) sub. I believe it's 10" might be 8" A lot of people say the bass response is better from that sub than stock and you can find one for about $90-$100. Shouldn't be a problem using it with your stock amp. And it's not at all difficult to install. Pop that little cover on the sub up, unscrew the old sub. Disconnect the wires. Pop that spacer/screen thing off the old sub, put it on the new one. Connect the wires to the new sub, screw it down and pop that cover back into place. Forget that $350 crap the dealer's trying to charge you.

I just replaced my sub because the old one popped. I bought a $35 one from ebay (200 watts) and I just popped it in there. Didn't take long at all, and it sounds great.

Does anyone have any specs on the Lexus Nakamichi stereo (first gen)? Like wattages of each speaker, speaker sizes etc. How many watts are being fed to the sub?
