I think what your trying to ask is if you can replace the stock 10" with any aftermarket 10" sub. No, you cannot. Most aftermarket subs require an enclosure, and the stock sub is a "free air" sub. The best sound quality will come from a sub in an enclosure. Second, you will have to run a separate amp for the sub.

You can. I had the Mark Levinson sub on my 2GS replaced with a JL Audio 10IB4 sub. It is 8 ohms and is a free air sub. It was a direct drop in the stock location replacement with no aftermarket amp needed and it sounds great A few others have done this and have been very happy with the results.
Unfortunately, the JL Audio 10IB4 sub was discontinued. But it was replaced by the JL 10w1v2 8 ohm.

Check this thread for further info. Especially post number 52

And here is a link to the 8 ohm sub brand new on Ebay, it's only $99! Remember, it's the 8 ohm that will work, not the 4 ohm version they make.

If non ML, i believe you can. Check out http://www.edesignaudio.com/index.php?cPath=1_78_117

i think you can fit a 10" marine sub with an amp as well since they are IB.

The W6 and Alpine Type R will most likely not work in the stock location. Those subwoofers are not meant to be used in an infinite baffle setup unless you have a few of them.
