Default Question about stock sub

I just found out that my 1999 GS300 is supposed to come with a stock sub, but realized that the previous owner had removed it to put in an aftermarket sub. Now I am left with an empty space where the stock sub is supposed to go, the wires for the stock sub, and wires to hook up an aftermarket sub and amp. I was wondering what the specs of the stock sub are (how many inches, rms, peak power, things like that) and what brand would be a good replacement.

I think the stock sub in my 2000 GS4 with nakamichi was a 10" I may be wrong. I would definately go aftermarket since it will be better sound quality and I think the stock sub is pricey(could be wrong)

would a 10 or 12 inch kicker work? will I need an amp to put on a kicker or could I just hook it up to the stock wires?

I've got a n '01. Mine was rattling bad so I took it out and fixed by using liquid tape. It was a 10". There are several post on here about replacing with aftermarket. I'd go with a JL for the quality but I don't think the stock amp is going to push it much so you'd probably have to add an aftermarket amp. I'm wanting to do that but haven't had the time or the money yet. Good luck.

Heres your answer!!! if you want to stay stock.(1) get a 10" something with a low RMS cause obviously your stock amp wont be able to push a JL or kicker or whatever cause they are a higher RMS woofer. they make lower RMS woofers (2) dont go to the junkyard cause the speaker will be almost for sure be blown or the cone be dry and cracked. (3) buy an aftermarket woofer and install it in the same location( there is a thread of a person selling a MDF piece for a aftermarket woofer for your baffle) Good luck

Thanksss. This is the exact reply I was looking for. I have a couple questions though. What exactly is the power capacity of the stock amp? And can you please send me the link of that post if you can? Thanks again

Hey I just upgraded my sub my 02 GS430 and it sounds sick... The ML sub is absolute crap after seeing what it looks like. I will put a full post up this week with photo's. It was a simple swap... I dropped in a JL Audio 10iB4 10" woofer 8 ohms. I bought it from Woofersetc (http://www.woofersetc.com/p2752/10IB...-Subwoofer.htm) Then used a 4 channel Alpine Amp which I already had to push it... All you really need is a mono amp. Had the guys at Bestbuy install it. It sounded clean, the bass is crisp, tight with no rattling, did i mention loud.... Love it man.. I've read a lot of different posts on here and decided this is the best possible set up. Someone else recommended this Sub but they used the stock ML amp. It would work fine but if you can afford an amp to push it, go for it. You wont regret it.
