New Navi conversion kit that DOES NOT require the Pioneer GEX-P7000TV
There's a new Navi conversion kit that DOES NOT require a Pioneer GEX-P7000TV offered by www.streeteffectz.com .
Here are some details posted by Ron from streeteffectz:
"We recently improved the kit and made it so you can mount it under the passenger seat, behind the navi drive without having all the noise on the screen. This means no more opening up the dash to install the unit. I will post some pics of the unit inside it's new enclosure and where we mounted it. Also incorporated an input for reverse camera that goes into its mode when you hit reverse, no matter what you are watching, also allows for a second video input, many more options to come"
This will work with ANY Navi including Lexus, BMW, etc....
Here's the thread from acuramdx.org and there's a group buy going for $475 including shipping for 10+ orders...

There are several advantages to using the Pioneer GEX-P7000TV. Most notably it's a TV tuner unit with diversity antenna inputs. It has 2 A/V inputs for extra sources, such as DVD player and VCR or game system. It also has rear A/V output jacks controlled independently from what will be showing on your navigation display. It has a built-in FM modulator for playing stereo sound over you FM radio, although a direct AUX in connection is always better. And your able to control all these features from a wireless remote control.
On the other hand StreetEffectz converter has 1 video input extra for a backup camera. His solution is a straight forward approach to having video on your navigation screen.

Would it be possible to still use the Pioneer unit with this set up? I bought the unit thinking I would get Vlads conversion, but he has not responded to my emails in a while, I am sure he is busy, but it worries me that he may not be making them anymore.
I think I am also still going to wait. I just wish he would put out some information on an estimated delivery; good or bad. The way they are handling things seems very poor to me. 4 weeks delivery originally, now it's been about 9 and no one has heard anything....

I would like to retain the use of the Pioneer unit so a toggle switch will not be needed for the tranfer between DVD, Tuner and other. The Pioneer P7000TV will allow for 3 hook ups, not just two and onscreen display.
I would like to use the GEXP7000tv as the switcher, as it has a tv tuner built in. The only problem is that is needs certain mods to work as a stand alone unit. I am holding onto a brand new one right now. We need the unit, whichever one we use, to have an FM modulator for sound, allow inputs for dvd, playstations, ect. which i believe your does. gotta run but i would like to discuss more. ........
well i most definitely want to use the pioneer because i already have it! my main concerns are:
- be able to switch between navi/tv/ps2/rear view cam and change tv tuner channels with remote...no funky switches that's not clean enough for me
- good sound quality...which Ron already has the solution for that
- and most importantly, i must be able to disconnect it and put things back the way it was...just in case the acura folk need to look at something or if i decide to sell the car
- oh, having the rear view cam kick on everytime the car is place into reverse would be tight too...but not necessary
