Default Stereo Upgrade HELP Techs!

I have a 2001 gs 300 with the stock receiver + 6 cd changer in truck. Honestly its just not loud enough. The bass is pathetic.

I can't turn it up that loud because of the front speakers etc get to much base. I want to do this. Get a good amp. $200-$500.

use existing reciever + cd changer.

Get 2 very good subs or one VERY Good one and mount it where the weak 10'' sub is in the back now. I want to have this done professionally hence i dont know much. What is everyone else running? Thanks alot everyone!!

lazybrain: you might get better results if you post this in the Electronics forum. All the audio techs hang out there. They are very good and will direct you in the right direction. You're right though...you will need to get rid of the stock sub and get a better amp. While you are doing that, you might as well get better door speakers too.

Default A little help...

Well, I thought the same thing when I got my GS. To start I added a amp, to just the stock sub, and I have to say it turned out pretty nice. Really easy install too, basic stereo knowledge and anyone could do it. I do plan to upgrade the sub to a JL10w3, but I figure run this one 'til it dies.

Did you use the OEM sub wire for speaker level input to the new amp, and then wire from the new amp to the sub? How did you get the 12V power to the back?

OK, first to get the power to the back. Behind the battery is a nice soft rubber boot, that you can easily put a small hole in and run a 8 guage wire through. It will end up on the passenger floor. Then, to run it to the rear, I just pulled up the trim panels to the back, removed the rear seat cushion, and viola, in the trunk. Next, I used the sub wire at the sub, I could not locate it either at the harness, or stock amp, so I just used the factory sub wire, and attached a line level converter to make it RCA compatible. I used a switched ignition wire that is in a grey plug on the pass rear fenderwell (once you pull back the lining its right there). Then, ran my wire up to the factory sub from the output of the amp, and grabbed my ground right next to the amp.

Later tonight, I"ll format some pics and load my final install up so you can see it.

Great pics.....and nice car. I've never seen a white that nice!! I had a white LS before but I didn't see a white GS as nice as yours.

Anyway, more questions if you don't mind:

1. How much power does your amp put out?
2. I'm not too familiar with car audio but did you "bridge" the amp outputs?
3. How much less do you typically set your bass level now. If you have a ****, is it now at 2 o'clock, 1 o'clock, etc.

Thanks again.

Clean installation but I would not use the amp in the covered mode too long...you could start a fire in the trunk with all that heat the amp generates...

Default HOT?

I don't think there will be any fires, this amp is monster, and I am only using a VERY minimal amount of its power. It never even gets luke warm to the touch, even if it did get warm, I really can't see a fire When its covered nothing even touches it. Thanks for all the compliments guys! I would guess this amp tested at about 500-600 watts, and I'm running it only 1 channel because I don't want to launch the factory sub through the back window Also, I have the amp gain turned almost all the way down. I would think that a decent 50 watt amp would be plenty to rock the stock sub pretty nice.
