Default Speaker Volume Problem

The front driver's side speaker in my 2000 GS300 has a problem. Sometimes when I start the car, with the volume on low, no sound comes out of the speaker and the other three speakers sound just fine. Then if I turn the volume up to a certain level, sound comes out of the speaker. Then I can turn the volume down to low and the speaker sounds fine at low volume.

I've replicated this with the car stopped and the key in the on position, so I don't think it's a wire problem.

Anyone have any ideas? Is this a speaker or amp issue? Thanks!

Sounds like oxidized or dirty contacts to me. Unplugging and reseating (that is, after cleaning, and maybe using a spot of DeoxIT or equivalent) the connectors at the amp will likely solve your problem.

Thanks! I'll try it. That would be great if that's all it took.
