GS400 JL Audio System Design
Folks,
Im planning out my new system and would like some design ideas from CL members. Here is what I purchased so far...
Subs 2 JL 10w6v2
Amps JL 1000/1v2 Subs / JL 300/4 Highs
Highs JL C5 6.5 Components for front and rear (purchased ebay MDF adapters)
Pioneer AVH-P4100DVD Head Unit w bluetooth module
Viper 5900
Dynamat Xtreme Bulk Pack
2 Optima yellow tops
I've been years since I've had a system so I would like some ideas on the type of enclosure, Sub position, amp mounting locations any other feedback would be great. I would like to keep the spare accessible. I'm having it installed by a local shop.
I will post pics when its done.
Thanks

like said above, no need for another battery, if anything just do a capacitor. to be honest the 12's put out a little bit more bump than 10's but if you already have them guess its fine, they still JL w6 haha GOOD LUCK!!

theres some spec from jl if you want to build the perfect box for the w6. but i would also calculate in how much truck space you have. when i had my 2 12w6v2 it took up most of my trunk. i would go with a ported box sounds loud/clean since the w6 was mainly based on sq.
what it looked like in my 95 LS

The shop is recommending to port the box through the rear deck using the stock 10 hole. They also said that by doing this all the air would be blasting in the car and not the trunk. Is it possible to build the box to JL specs and still keep this design? Below is a link to the jl specs.

one thing if you do decide to run the port into the back deck is to make sure that port velocity is kept low (high port velocity means you can hear the air moving past the lip of the port, which sounds quite bad)... really you just want a large port, at least 3-4" in diameter, or possibly multiple ports - the only downside is that port tuning a larger diameter / surface area port means that the port itself has to be longer... I don't know the math exactly, but a port that is 4" in diameter usually has to be something like 2-3x the length as one that is 2" in diameter... I always just used a box building program to help figure it... thats why the slot port illustrated is 30" long... it's equivalent to a 4" diameter round port that is 30" long roughly... you could also do a smaller diameter port that is shorter, but run the risk of port noise...
