Nice... I've also been leaning towards JL audio. I just want a lil sumthin but still have usable trunk space. I can get this for $450 local but I have some old amps laying around. Debating on getting it now and just using one of the low end amps or wait and pick up a better amp at the same time. I already pulled the blown sub out the rear deck... soooo I'm not getting the best commute music right now lol.

I've lately wanted to get back into the car audio scene, due to the lack of aftermarket support for the 2IS. Been considering a set of molded trunk pods in the corners and a 5-channel amp to net me a center channel (of which I currently lack, non-ML). Hmmmmmm, decisions decisions.
In ALL of my previous vehicles with stereo equipment (WAY beyond stock), I never ran a midrange speaker. Obviously not part of the sound quality scene like some deeply care about; for me, it's about the BASS. Has anyone tried NOT running a mid and seeing what the results are on an aftermarket setup? This being of course in a 2IS. Just curious.

Do you mean completely removing the stock mid speaker or just leave them stock up front?

No mid whatsoever. Just curious if anyone had and what the sound quality difference was going from an OEM 3-way setup to an aftermarket 2-way (no mid).

I don't think it'd be that bad sounding with a full range but I decided to fill all the speaker locations up front with Hertz 3 ways and a Hertz center channel in the stock ML location.
Jl Audio seems to do two things really good. Amps & subs. Didn't care so much for their speakers though as I had them in my Toyota Sienna.
Just got done installing a sound system in my RX 350 worthy enough to challenge the ML in my IS 350. I got the JL xd 600/6 , Helix dsp along with a Kenwood dnx691hd. What made the greatest difference was the Helix dsp. Get one!!! With it now the sound is coming from windshield and the 6x9's they were able to "raise" to the windshield so all the sound stage is on the dashboard. By doing this the speakers have vanished. it's been 20 years since I've hopped back into the audio scene and this go around its all about sq. I'm not a bass head as I used to be. But I'll be lying if I said I'm not itching for one though Looking at some shallow mount subs to blend in with the music. In the meantime those 6x9's are some seriously good thumpers! So I can wait.
Congrats op. Enjoy the music!
