Unhappy 95 SC power mirrors do not work??

Hello, recently both my power mirrors went out on my SC , AT THE SAME TIME!!!

I am afraid of the Lexus dealership racking up big hourly fees researching the problem. Have any of the members or guests had a similar problem and found a solution. A friend had heard this was a common prblem on Sc's and the solution was repalcing some module underneath the dash Could it be a fuse??

Thanks to everyone in advance

Dan

Sorry to hear the news,

Yes, its common and yes its a module under the dash. Power mirror ECU. Very simple checks....call around to the dealer for an estimate of the ECU computer and see if you want to pay that much.

Yes, it's the power mirror ECU Who said Lexus built to last
~$200 form Gordon or Steve at Carson Toyota 800-908-6968
Remember to take the battery negative cable out before working on this. You'll have a lot of fun replacing this ECU. I would not recomment dealer because they will charge a lot of money.
Do a search on this forum on how to replace this. Or after you received the ECU, you will figure out how to take those bolts and screws out to install the new one in.

Sorrry, but the folks are right. The ECU module is more than likely dead. Iron Toad, a WEB site, may get you a better price. The other option is to re-wire the mirror control, but this requires a very sound knowledge of electronics, and the Service Manual for the SC. You will also have to add a wire from where the ECU module plug was (is) to the mirror switch. Can be done, as I had done it until I found a replacement ECU on Ebay.

Good luck, but this, like the P/S pump leaking and burning out the alternator are two of the many problems for this mediocre quality vehicle.
This car will $5 & $10 you to death! (Forget about nickel and dimeing you, this puppy takes more green to fix).

I changed ECU and it works fine now.
I couldn't figure out how to take out one bolt so I just left old one there

Thumbs up

That will work! I remember it was a bit of an effort to get the old one out. A couple of wire ties and zip, you will be fine!

Thanks!

This "metiorcre quality vehicle" gets one of JDPA's highest ratings for build quality (interior/exterior), initial reliability, midterm reliability and longterm reliability. If you consider that mediocre I'd hate to see what you call poor quality. But I'm curious as to what you call high quality.

I find this ironic coming from a 928 owner. Surely your 928 takes more to maintain. I know mine sure does...

I'm glad someone else had something to say about that. I wasn't going to take that 928 approach, although I agree with you 100%.
