I just got my SC yesterday, and among other electrical problems (read: needles blacked out) my power mirrors are frozen like YZFR1's. Any insight would be great, I am not looking forward to a trip to the dealer...

IIRC, the power mirrors have an ECU than can go bad, and does.

Is this the one that controls the memory functions? If so, where is it. If it is not, where is this ECU? The ECU i always thought was the engine control unit. My friend has a salvage yard and has a 95 SC400 there now. I can go and get this to try to it out. Thanks.

Dan,

Another reason why they could have stopped working is because of the wiring running through the drivers door where the rubber boot is. These wires sometimes get damaged in there. The fix? Well, you have to disconnect the wiring from the junction block, thread it through the rubber boot and locate the damaged wire.

Me, I just do without the mirrors

Mark,

I would bring it to an auto electrical place and get them to troubleshoot it before you pay Lexus $80 an hour to do the same thing.

The lock/unlocking is because of a bad door lock actuator. The buzzing sound is probably a bad connection/bad contact in your wiring.

Good Luck,
Jonny

Does anyone know exactly where this "ECU" is located? I read one of the other threads linked, but it just says near the drivers legs....... I am going to try to go to my friends Salvage Yard and get it if i can. He has 2 SC's but he said the power seat computers were taken already...... They were under the drivers seat tho.. I am hoping this is not the problem.....

Thanks in advance.

Awesome man - thank you.

From what I can understand, which blows my mind because everyone on the 2 threads talked about it and asked where it was located and no-one actually said where it is , it is located in the drivers footwell above where the gas pedal is. I don't recall ever seeing it. I read there that this same ECU controls other stuff - power seats etc so I do not think this is the culprit.

My money is on broken wires in the door area going to the junction block.

Peace,
Jonny

sometimes itll affect your mirrors or both mirrors and seats position, but usually they all go together, your seats will work if you adjust them yourself but they wont do anything if you press the memory buttons, and the mirrors won't work regardless of.. now that 'ecu' it's in there the other threads are saying but it's just a BIATCH to get to.. I remember a thread with pictures of the location but this was a WHILE ago..

OK, the memory function for my steering column and seats all function......... just neither mirror works....... i mean, i can understand one mirror wire getting kinked and broken, but on both of them..... that just doesn't sit well with my instincts.... But, if the mirrors don't work regardless of the memory or not...... maybe i am onto someting... I am going to see what i can do with this and pray that it is ine one of the SC's at my friends yard...

Thanks.....
