Do you get full Theile/Small parameters with the sub? Have they been confirmed by a 3rd party test?
I've always been a fan of the Dayton drivers from PE. The DVC 12" and 15" are built by Eminence and the Titanic series is built by NSA Labs (both are great build houses). I haven't used the newer Reference series drivers but the reviews are great and DIYMA tested it on a Klippel and confirmed that the specs are in fact better than published - link.
Besides 3rd party testing or a great build house, I will also put my trust in a driver designer. Dan Wiggins has been involved with the design of the new Exodus Audio drivers. If anyone is planning an IB, the DLP-10 is on sale for $65. Besides Dan, Scott Atwell (Fi Car Audio/Ascendant Audio/Epik Subwoofers/formerly RE Audio), John Janowitz (AE Speakers/formerly Stryke Audio/Lambda Acoustics), Deon Bearden (formerly TC Sounds/formerly AE Speakers/formerly Klipsch), Stephen Ponte (SVS/formerly TC Sounds), Mark Seaton (Seaton Sound/formerly Danley Sound Labs/formerly Servodrive) are all great designers and I would purchase a sub from them based entirely on reputation. Finally, customer service. Companies like Soundsplinter (Mike), DIY Cable (Kevin), Mach 5 (Mark), Sundown (Jacob), IA and even ED (Ben - there are some haters on the different forums) will take care of you and sell a good product at a good price.

I don't know if they sounded terrible but they definitely looked it.
