Default Speaker Wire Polarity...?

I have 2002 GS 430 with mark Levinson system. the rear sub foam rotted out, so I took it out and repaired it ( not bad for $15)...anyway when taking it out I unsodlered the wires instead of clipping them.....I forget which wire goes where...theres a red and a yellow...does anyone know which one is which ??

I searched for an hour for an answer

50/50 chance you got there

I dont have the ML subwoofer myself so I can't tell you, but usually if you apply a AA battery to the terminal and the cone moves upward, then the way the battery is set up should be your polarity.

Or you can just temporarily hook it up and change the polarity until it sounds better to you. For my system, even though my polarity matches the amp's "+" and "-" terminal, I find myself having to flip the polarity to get better sound.

it doesn't really matter... the only time it matters is if you have more than one speaker, then they need to be wired with the same polarity else they will be out of phase from one another... as noted above, sometimes a speaker will sound better with one polarity vs the other, so, hook it up temporary, listen, try the other way, listen... the other way to tell is to hook up the speaker, and use a volt meter - if you put the positive lead of the vtvm on the positive speaker terminal, and negative on the negative terminal, and play a test tone (at a frequency the speaker can reproduce), you should see a positive voltage... if its negative, then you have the leads backwards...

Let me help out here... get a 9v battery. Run a wire from each terminal of the battery to each terminal of the speaker. When attached, if the speaker cone moves outward, then whatever terminal of the speaker connected to the + side of the terminal is also + of the speaker. If when you connect the battery and the cone moves inwards you have it reversed. Hope that makes sense.

that will get you speaker polarity, not amp polarity that the OP was asking for...

CODY!!!!

Sorry to hack the thread but haven't heard from you in a minute!!! Hit me up bro! Oh, MECP certification in my hand!!!!

As to the topic, Mitsu speaketh the truth in his first post. While pecking the speaker will tell the polarity of the driver terminals, listening to the speaker play will best help you determine the correct connections.
