Wow, this is very exciting for me...I finally got a system, really good and REALLY CHEAP.
The Tweeter store near me is closing. I got a JL W1 13" sub with a vented box it was in for $140.... It was 60% off. Its only for a sc400, so i didnt want two twelves, wouldnt have fit.
A guy I work with bought a crutch amp last year, he said for over $400, its 700W, hes also giving me all the wires and hooking it up tom. all for $50... Hes this really cool guy, so I now have a really nice system for under $200.
Any opinions on how this will sound together. also, using the stock headunit. do we have to take out the factory amp and all that, im sellin the car in about 1.5 months so i just want to be able to unplug it then and put it in my new car, and return the sc400 to factory settings. is this gonna be hard to install?
he said he knows how, but i think it might be more trouble with that massive amount of wires in the back and the amp. am i wrong?
He just needs to know how to connect into the subwoofer speaker level output with a converter or how to connect into the sub's low level output from the head unit -- this can be found in the rear deck under the deck panel--
The easiest way is to tap into the FRONT speakers outputs from the factory amp-- BUT-- the sound won't be that great w/o removing the stock sub-- which you won't be doing-- it will most likely rattle like hell--
don't tap into the rear speakers as they have all the bass cut out from a built in xover in the head unit itself-- tap into the front speakers high level outputs from the amp or to the factory sub's high level wires (speaker wire) in the rear deck-- the only problem is that it will need a power wire too, and then you'll have to remove it again--
I'd just wait-- grin and bear it-- then install this in your new car -- saves a good bit of trouble that's unneccessary--
If you do you can always just leave the power cable there, which isn't a bad option, since you can get it at a battery supply shop for $1.50 per foot or thereabouts-- much easier to just leave the old power cable behind for the next guy-- he may want it anyhow--
yeah, the factory sub still works.. so all we have to do is take off the door panels and all that, just hook in to the front speakers, Theyre dead btw, just the front, is that gonna affect it? they still play, but there blown.
If your sub still works, you just need to disconnect it and use that signal to run a speaker level converter to your new amp-- unless it has hi level inputs--
You just don't want both subs playing I wouldn't think- It may work though -- you can try it I guess--
No need to take the door panels off unless you're replaciing the speakers--
Actually, I have a somewhat similar thing going on. I have the converter and all too. My stock sub is not disconnected but I do have the bass turned all the way down to -4. Mids at 3, treble at 2.
well, no luck today? :/
i went to work and the guys exwife called and i answered the phone, and she said she needed to talk to him, it was important. something really bad happened, and he left immediately. so i guess ill be waiting till monday. ill keep you guys posted when i get it hooked up.
Hey man-- wiring charts can be found at intellexual.net --
For the firewall wire run-- you need a coat hanger or fish tape (correct way) -- there's a grommet above the driver's left toe area up in the corner -- large in size, many wires run thru it-- and oddly enough I seem to remember it having a funny cutout that looks like it's made for a power wire--
Just run your fish tape thru there and it'll be in that small compartment under the edge of the fender by the brake booster-- like a cutout on the right where you'll see lots of wires in there--
Kinda tough to see it-- a white or brass colored coat hanger works best as you can see it-- but orange paint on the end of a fish tape works even better -- or glow in the dark paint for that matter--
MJHSC300 gives great advice, But I have a 93 GS300 that I installed an system in yesterday. And fining a way to run an O/gauge wire through the fire wall was a "B"! I don't think it's the same as the SC300?
