Default which components should i get???

hey guys,

need some help in choosing a component set for my GS300. After listening to some set ups, i like to go with CD Technologies mids and highs and OZ tweeters. or maybe just go all around OZ. what do you guys think about that set up??? any input would be appreciated...

System goals? SPL? SQ? Moderate upgrade? Minimal upgrade?

The products you would be looking at would be:

Dynaudio, Focal, Rainbow, MBQuart (QSD Series only)

You need to find the best audio shop in your area and listen to these speakers yourself. They sound different. Each has its own sounding quality.

What kind of money do you want to spend?

ive heard the oz matrix component set. a little lacking in the midbass department, but all around warm sounding speakers. i've also gotten a chance to audition the cdt classic braxial speakers which i thought were pretty dayam good (specially for the price). the tweets were suprisingly nicely aligned (thought they would sound like coax's with the tweeter placement). a lot more defined/clear/warm than the focal polykevs that i had.

just my 2 cents

The choice of tweets is most important thing when choosing speaker component set. The thing is that Lexus cars have leather all around the salon of a car. Therefore any tweet would be amplified and would sound more metallic and defined due to the leather surface characteristics. This is the only reason I went with "weak" Rainbow Pro tweeters but not Focals or Dynaudios (Never even considered MBQ).

Pay attention to the environment of the car when you listen to speakers. In every car they would sound very different.

I've noticed this also. With ribbon tweeters (Infinity EMIT's, Sony XES H50's) they will sound metallic. For some reason, it may be due to the aluminum/silver that they use in the ribbons. MBQ's sound harsh due to the titanium but I had to use these when I had the Grand Prix with the cloth interior. Otherwise everything got muddled. The Dyn tweets, when mounted at eye level, sound great. Now if they're firing at your knees in a horizontal dispersion, they sound awful. Kevlar tweets...not much in the terms of definition but I've only listened to these a couple of times.

But then the wonder of a good eq or crossover comes in handy. If they sound too bright or too metallic, it may be possible to isolate the frequency and pad it down a bit, but you can only do it so much before you lose definition.

I use the EQ in my setup and I can tune my tweets all I want. However, I would rather have them sound good before the equalisation. I have my EQ to get every song sound the best, but its a great trouble solver for the tweets!

I meant what music do you normally listen and tune the system to.

Usually I use the latest IASCA CD. There is some cool music on that one and there is more then enough to tune dynamics, soundstage width and many other things.

I listen to Trance most of the time though.

hello,

it's hard to find the right components for so many diff. cars.

i know the same speaker makes diff sounds and it's all diff. with installation, amps, and wires, etc.

however; i love how focal sounds. and i have a good experience with my last focal.

if you want to decide between CDT. i will say go for it.

CDT is one of europe company growing really fast and i liked how they sounded.

especially, i liked the top of line CDT audio's, which is HD-642st. it comes with .75' tweeters but you can upgrade it with 1' and it will be hd-64dt.

i am planing to get those CDT audio on my next project.

i found one site that had really low price on CDT audio, go stop by there,

hope helped.
