Angry Uh oh! Illumination + Tail lights problem! I screwed up. Help please?

Oh man... I think I've gone and screwed up this time.

So here's the story. I had installed an aftermarket HU for a relative of mine. After a while, he tells me that his clock doesn't illuminate. Okay, so I go and check the wires.
The thing is, the HU has "always on" illumination, so the illumination wire that used to connect to the stock HU is not needed. So I capped it. This was all done during the first install.

Ok so when I go check the wires, I assumed that it's that illumination wire that's causing the problem. So I did some mindless testing with that wire and I shorted something out. NOW, the gauge + HVAC illumination doesn't work and neither do the tail lights!!

If I connect that hanging illumination wire to a 12v charge, the lights would turn on (I guess since that wire is connected to the other wires). For now, I connected it to the ignition power so that it's always on. He needs to drive it so having it always on is better than having no tail lights at night.

I'm guessing that the first click on the light switch isn't working.

All the fuses seem to be intact.

Some help would be appreciated. I guess I'll be checking out the wires from the switch next time. Anybody have any ideas or know exactly what's going on ?
