Exclamation I need Recommendations

Hi all,

I have a 06 ES330 and I am planning to replace the current sub with a better one with a single amp to power it. I am all confused about which would be the best brand for me to get out there . I am not looking for really high-end (competitive series) but a reasonable one which provides decent but strong bass . I was also thinking of placing the sub in the exact same location where the old one is now placed which is right below the third brake light hanging... is that a good idea to get the best of it?

Second, I don't have the equip nor garage to perform this mod by myself, I live in columbia, MD and for now my option is the shop.. how much will the labor usually run? do you guys any good shops around this area?

Thanks a lot guys....

Default Alpine Type S

The type s is excellent!!!

I like to consider myself an audio fanatic- so believe me when I say I was very surprised when I had a pair installed in my sisters car. Very LoUD, and it hits hard too for an SQ sub! If you search around you can get one for about 90 bucks.

I would estimate the total cost including sub, amp, amp kit, and install at about 3 bills more less.

Labor is shop dependent, and how long they take to figure things out.

The Alpine Type S sub is not meant for infinite baffle, as Alpine knows the interest in free-air sub is insignificant compared to boxed subwoofers.

I am using this right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/Image-Dynamics-O...QQcmdZViewItem

It's one of the better infinite baffle subwoofer for the price. Another sub you can use is the JL Audio IB4 sub, but those were discontinued a long time ago and finding one for a good price is pretty hard. They go for about $175 the last time I've seen them for sale.

To answer your question, no, the alpine is not a free air sub. You got me on that free air sub, your guess is as good as mine, sorry.

If you do a search for "Gompka, relating to sub install" in the 1st gen gs I think he did some custom work in his trunk.

Good luck

Question

Thanks guys...

LayinLo I will check that out... I taught I saw that thread before but I tried searching for it again but could not find it... also the salesman was telling me that since the trunk of ES330 is big a freeair sub would not do any good .. well I buy it but still don't you guys think at least it will a lot better than the original setup.. I mean currently it has 8" and yet it produces decent bass...

Please et me know what you guys think Free Air Vs. Box ??

Thanks guys...

Question Rockford Setup... for my ES ( Need input about Bestbuy store installation)

Hi..

I have yet to finalize my system setup...but I got this new setup from BestBuy store..

10" Punch Stage 2 P210S4 RMS 200W @ 4Ohm
PEAK 400W @ 4 Ohm

10" Q-Logic Box QLH - 1.0010SS

Punch P200.2 Amplifier (2Channel)
200W x 1 (Bridged RMS @ 4 Ohm)
50W x 2 (RMS @ 4 Ohm)

Do you guys think the Amp should have enough power to drive the Sub?? and need some recommendations about getting a BESTBUY guys intall the equipments.. well my only justifications to go with em is because I move around quite often and if anything goes wrong I can always bring it to them as oppossed to a individual audio shop which only serves in one particular location..

Anybody has done any work at bestbuy before.. what do you guys think?? Thanks

i'm doing a similar project of adding an amp/boxed sub to my car however i'm going to be doing it all myself. i've been doing a lot of research on pairing amps/subs together and your amp/sub combo seems great. other than that i don't know what to tell you about best buy. but sure if it makes sense to do it that way then go ahead.

You know...

I changed my config again after hearing the sound of Kicker

This is my current setup in my car which I installed from Circuit City yesterday

Kicker COMP 12" $ 99.99
Single Sealed Box $ 59.99
Kicker ZX300 Amp $ 199.99
Gauge Cables $ 49.99
Line Converter $ 29.99
Labor $ 75.00

These sounds excellent dude... I love the bass.. the guys over at circuit city placed the line converter through my stock subwoofer wires.. I understand that these wires have already been receiving a low pass from the stock amp and I was fine with that cause it is going to go to another sub anyways..

Let me know how your project went... damm looking at what they did.. this is a piece of cake.. should have done it by myself damn

The only problem I am having rite now is :-

Step A
I leave my radio on and shut of the engine.

Step B
I insert the key into position again to restart and wait for all sensors to stop beeping which i always have been doing before I start the car

Step C
The radio will turn on, and when I start cranking, I hear the sub woofer going pouncing like GRRRRRR GRRRRR GRRRR and stops after the car starts and things go normal.

Step D
I shut off the radio, and when shutting of the engine I hear a small amount of Bass released.

Any ideas... what could be wrong here??

Thanks
