Recommended amp for Image Dynamics
Anybody got any recommendations of amp choice for either a Image Dynamics
IDMAX 10" or a IDQ10?
IDMAX
High SPL Ultra
Long Excursion 10-inch
Dual 2 Ohms
Sealed Box: 1.00 - 1.50 cu.ft
Ported Box: 1.50 - 2.00 cu.ft.
Free Air Usage
Frequency Response: 20-250 Hz
RMS - 1000W
Peak Power Handling: 1800W
ID10
Size: 10 inch
Rec. Sealed Box Dims: 0.40 - 0.80 cu.ft.
Rec. Ported Box Dims: 1.10 - 1.60 cu.ft.
Free Air Usage: yes
Sensitivity: 86.5 dB
Frequency Response: 10-150 Hz
Recommended RMS Power: 50-400W
Peak Power Handling: 500W
Can be setup for 1ohm, 2ohms, or 4 ohms.
I'll be using it on the stock location as Infinite Baffled
My choices so far were the JL 1000/1 for the IDMAX or the JL 500/1 for the ID10
I was thinking of Zapco amps but they are too expensive
How are the Hifonics amp. Maybe the Zeus series. Are they any good?

I say Zapco
..Check my sig..Great power,no fluf...JL has slipped over the last few years(outsourced)..I actually have the Ref.200.2 bridged mono running the IDQ10 D2 V2..I was gonna upgrade to a 350.2 cause I thought I was underpowered but my installer talked me out of it..The 200.2 pushes just fine..Im not trying to be heard 8 blocks away and my SQ is primo with just the kick in the pants I want..Hope this helps!

Where did you get those specs?RMS for that sub is 250w..300 is peak power..Zapco underrates their amps. The data sheet for my amp list 225w continuous. In the correct box and proper setup its more than I need.My installer has been a friend of mine for 15+yrs so its not about him making a buck.Again..Im not trying to be heard 8 blocks away.Im after good clean powerful sound and thats what I got.BTW..Im running inly 1 sub and DLS 3 ways in the kick panels and at loud volume not a bit of distortion to be heard..The IDQ is for sound Q,IDMAX is SPL.
IDQ10 D2 V.2 specs
Nominal Impedance (IMP) 1 / 4 ohm
DC Resistance (Re) .925 / 3.7 ohms
Resonant Frequency (Fs) 23Hz
Electrical "Q" (Qes) .345
Mechanical "Q" (Qms) 4.77
Total "Q" (Qts) .322
Equivalent Volume (Vas) 2.26 ft3
One Way Linear (Xmax) 13.2mm
Cone Area (Sd) 350 cm2
Sensitivity (Spl) 89.4db
RMS Power Handling (Pwr) 50 to 300

I've been running a single IDMAX 12" off of a JL 500/1 for years now. If you do a sealed or ported box there will be no loss of sound quality. All IDMAXes are awesome as far as producing a lot of SPL at a VERY high sound quality level, without needing a nuclear generator to replace your alternator. IDQ is a very good speaker for what it is, but not designed to be driven too hard, and not anywhere near the league of IDMAX.
I highly recommend the JL 500/1, though you could prob get away with 250/1 for the IDMAX 10" if you want to save some money. Zapco and Arc Audio also recommended.
Rather than dwell on what amp you'll get, I'd spend some time figuring out what the best install location, enclosure, and techniques are. This will make far more difference in what your outcome is. Depends very much on what music you like best. I'd do a ported enclosure if you like rap, dance, DOR, metal, ect. (heavier, often synthesized bass). Sealed for jazz, classical, country, classic rock. With an IDMAX 10" in a GS you can even get away with no enclosure (free-air) and mount in the rear deck with a supporting board, but likely to cause more unwanted vibrations and resonance at higher volumes unless you do an awful lot of sound deadening.

So if i get the IDMAX10. The JL 500/1 is enough power for it? It'll probabaly be in the stock 10" location Free-air with something to support the heavy thing..
What ohm should i wire it. 2ohm or 4ohm?
I got the avn5435 coming along with my sirius box. (cant wait)
450/4 will be driving my front and rears. (Installingmy old Infinity Kappa's for now since it's sitting in my garage)

JL 500/1is plenty.
You could also get a 5 channel JL amp 500/5 and do the whole system with it, might be cheaper. Having the separate sub amp is better though, if you have the room and the wallet.
The best way to do it is to get the dual 4-ohm voice coil IDMAX (IDMAX10D4) and wire the voice coils in parallel, yielding a 2 ohm equivalent impedance. Most amps will drive this no problem. This way both voice coils will see the exact same signal, and there will be no interaction of the coils.
Do not mount the IDMAX directly to the rear deck, you are asking for trouble. Mount it solidly to a board, then solidly mount the board to the deck. Also don't forget to allow room for the large cone excursion, it needs clearance to the deck.
Sirius baby, Sirius...(I'm shamelessly advertising.)

I wouldn't do a free-air install with the IDMAX in the stock location, at least without some major bracing. Been there done that, just go with a box setup unless you're willing to put out lots of sweat and time for a proper setup.
Supposedly the IDQ is more for pure sound quality than the idmax, but because of the idmax's output, most people opt for the idmax.
