My 98 LS400's CD changer skips. I took the CD's out and cleaned them but the changer still skips. Is there something wrong with my CD's or is it my changer?

Did it just start doing this? If all of your CDs are skipping then it's most like a problem with the player. It's possible that the laser is dirty. You can buy special CD's with a small cleaning brush on them just for this purpose. Radio Shack, Best Buy, etc. should sell them.
Not sure how they got scratched. You can buy scratch remover polish at CD stores. I've also found that Novus Plastic Polish #2 works great. Just remember that when you're cleaning CDs you ALWAYS want to wipe ACROSS the CD (from center hole to outer edge), NOT AROUND the CD (like you would clean a vinyl record). This is because CD players can easily correct for scratches across the CD, but not scratches along the CD's rotation.
I polished the CD but it still skips in my car. I played it in a different car and it didn't skip. I guess this sounds like something is wrong with my cd changer. Before I spend hundreds of $ to replace it I would like to try some cheaper alternatives. Would cleaning the cd changer help? any other suggestions? Thanks.
Does it crackle?? Does it only skip on certain types of cds, like burned cds, burned music cds, real cds or all of them??
If it is only for burned cds, then i believe your lense is out of allignment. (Burned cds are a different thickness than burned cds) I have the same problem. It really sucks and because you have to replace the changer and it will cost you more than hundreds of dollars unless you go ebay and get used.
it skips only at certain songs. It's a regular music cd which I bought from a record store years ago. The skipping started recently. It has no problems playing most of the other CD's.
